Join Conservancy instructor Leanne Benton for an exploration of the early season wildflowers across Rocky Mountain National Park.

Some of Rocky Mountain National Park's earliest blooms are the loveliest, from tiny alpine forget-me-nots to colorful calypso orchids. We’ll spend the day exploring a variety of wildflower habitats in Rocky Mountain National Park, from high alpine ridges to lower montane meadows. Participants in this outdoor course will have a chance to hone their identification skills and get up close with the mountain flora. You’ll discover each species' amazing adaptations for survival in harsh conditions and the unique stories behind their beautiful faces.

Who: Adults and teens ages 16 and up. Expect short-distance walks throughout the day, primarily on level terrain.

What to bring:

  • Please be prepared to spend a full day outdoors in RMNP, including time above 10,000 ft.
  • RMC’s Field Institute 10 Essentials,
  • Bag lunch,
  • Hand lens or magnifying glass (optional but recommended),
  • Your favorite wildflower books or guides (optional)

About your Instructor: Leanne Benton is a former ranger-naturalist in Rocky Mountain National Park and has led wildflower walks in the park for over 25 years. She has studied and photographed the park’s wildflowers since her first summer in the park, and continues to expand her botanical knowledge, most recently into edible and medicinal uses of plants.
