Master educator and naturalist Steve Johnson leads this course for teachers on connecting CO's life zones to changes in elevation in RMNP.

Build the state academic standards into your curriculum with a visit to the mountains. Looking closely at the Colorado life zones from the Plains to the Alpine life zone (5,000’ -14,000’) we see the equivalent of traveling 2,000+ miles north in latitude. Geography, Writing/Communication, Health/PE, Math, and Science teachers can find several fascinating connections to their observations at different elevations. Create your connection to state standards and enjoy a day in the Colorado mountains!

Who: Grade school teachers, home school educators, and instructional coaches. Expect short-distance walks throughout the day, primarily on level terrain.

What to bring:

  • Please be prepared to spend a full day outdoors in RMNP, including time above 10,000 ft.
  • RMC’s Field Institute 10 Essentials,
  • Bag lunch,
  • Copy of the CO academic standards you'd like to reflect on (optional but recommended),
  • Camera and note-taking materials(optional)
